In recent years, the City of New Orleans has substantially increased the compensation package provided to law enforcement officers. In addition to the salary and benefits, bonuses and incentives are available to new recruits.

*In addition to the base salary paid by the City of New Orleans as listed above, the State of Louisiana provides supplemental pay in the amount of $425 per month after one year of service.
BENEFITS
Upon advancement to officer rank, police are eligible for the following benefits:
- Group health, dental and vision insurance
- Paid vacation and sick leave
- Free and/or reduced college tuition programs
- Up to 21 college credits at participating colleges and universities upon completion of Police Academy
- 32 weeks state-certified law enforcement training
- Excellent retirement plan:
- 25 years of service – fully vested at 83%
- 30 years of service – fully vested at 100%
